Seguros G&T

Backend & Integrations Engineer · Financial & Insurance Platform Integrations · Guatemala

Led end-to-end initiatives across one of Guatemala's largest insurance groups — defining architecture while personally implementing core services, and coordinating directly across Claims Operations, on-site adjusters, and Call Center teams to translate real-time accident-response workflows into automated platform capabilities.

  • Architected and built, from scratch, an end-to-end vehicle-insurability platform spanning two inspection channels — self-service virtual and assisted in-branch — scaling to nearly 5,000 automated inspections monthly. Orchestrated a third-party AI-based inspection provider through a single-webhook integration, combining Elasticsearch with a relational staging layer and a throttled hand-off queue to protect the core system from overload.
  • Designed a Python-based vehicle valuation engine cross-referencing three independent data sources — government tax records, internal policy data, and web-sourced market listings — to generate real-time price estimates, paired with a fraud-detection layer validating chassis data against an external registry. Independently proposed and implemented a Drools-based dynamic rules layer enabling underwriting criteria to change without code deployments.
  • Architected a real-time, event-driven claims-intake platform requiring near-zero latency from the moment of a reported accident — auto-scaling containerized services to absorb demand spikes, and applying the Strangler Fig pattern to progressively migrate responsibilities off the legacy core through purpose-built intermediary APIs.
  • Built a decoupled, queue-based notification system — with retry logic and failure encapsulation guaranteeing delivery to policyholders, adjusters, and the call center within seconds — and applied a circuit breaker around the third-party provider integration to contain failures without degrading the core claims flow.

Business Development Group (BDG)

Software Engineer · Integrations & Systems · Guatemala

Led the full technical and architectural redesign of a major PHP/Laravel insurance web platform — rebuilding legacy systems and introducing clean intermediary backend layers and custom API endpoints to unlock new business capabilities.

  • Reverse-engineered complex legacy codebases to design, map, and implement critical administrative features and backend management portals that had no prior technical existence.
  • Engineered a high-performance solution for automated large-scale document generation, dramatically reducing response latency under peak user traffic through deep database query optimization and architecture refactoring.
  • Decoupled hard dependencies between external platforms and core legacy services, establishing a clean, maintainable system architecture built to scale.
  • Technical ownership and delivery quality throughout the engagement directly prompted the client to formally request a direct hire — a conversion driven entirely by the results and trust earned during the project.

Centro de Documentación y Biblioteca de Farmacia (USAC)

Solutions Architect & Technical Lead · Independent Technology & Systems Initiatives · Guatemala

A sustained, decade-long digital transformation initiative — sole technical architect responsible for reinventing an academic institution's software, web presence, and physical network infrastructure, where none of these systems existed before. Currently leads a rotating team of graduating engineering students, sourced through a formal university EPS partnership.

  • Replaced hardcoded business logic in a live production application with a dynamic, version-controlled rule engine (Drools, Java), externalizing decision rules from the codebase into an auditable, maintainable rule base.
  • Validated the growing API surface behind medical-authorization workflows on the institution's new insurance core — building the underlying Java test suite (Mockito) and leading end-to-end business-flow testing sessions with cross-functional stakeholders, including Selenium-based frontend validation through a full pre-launch cycle.
  • Assumed full technical ownership of the corporate website, architecting an anti-corruption layer to safely integrate legacy APIs the team could not modify directly — consolidating existing enterprise services (coverage lookups, provider catalogs, policy payments) in place of rebuilding them.
  • Designed a progressive authentication model — from a lightweight tokenized flow enabling one-time payments without a full session, to a complete session-based authenticated experience — reverse-engineering the platform's undocumented codebase with no administrative interface available.

Key initiatives under this role

Centro Digital

Cloud-native, modular system that fully digitalized the institution's academic operations (certificates, report submissions, visitor registration): role-based auth, a notification engine, automated PDF generation via Jasper Reports, GCP-based document storage, and CI/CD via GitHub Actions.

AI Document Analysis Pipeline

In development — testing complete, final API integration underway — to automatically analyze and summarize student final reports upon upload. One of the institution's first AI-assisted academic workflows.

Document Generation & Distribution Platform

Unified generation and distribution platform for collective-policy insurance clients: a single Java service backed by relational and non-relational storage, caching, and Kafka-driven events, plus a dedicated Angular delivery portal with encrypted, tokenized access and personalized email links.

Web Portal Modernization

Migrated the institution's official web portal from static HTML/CSS/JS to a full React + Vite application, with a new UX/UI designed in Figma — the institution's first structured, modern digital presence.

Network Infrastructure

Deployed enterprise-grade network infrastructure on IaaS principles — managed switch, pfSense firewall, VLAN segmentation, and captive portal — transforming a legacy physical space into a fully managed, secure digital environment.

Glifos → Koha Migration

Substantially complete architectural migration from a licensed ILS to the open-source Koha platform: a MARC21-based intermediary bridge to transparently migrate the full bibliographic catalog, system architecture defined via the C4 model in Structurizr, and GCP infrastructure provisioned via Terraform.

Grumet Universe

Co-Founder & Solutions Architect · Digital Products · Architecture-as-a-Service

Co-founded and built a digital product ecosystem from zero, applying Architecture-as-a-Service (AaaS) principles to design and deliver scalable commercial platforms in the education and services sectors — from company incorporation to live, revenue-generating products.

  • Founded Grumet Universe end-to-end: handled full company legal incorporation, defined business models, and led product strategy across two commercial product lines — a user opinion and review platform and a scholarship management system.
  • Led the complete product lifecycle from ideation and user research through UX/UI workflow in Figma with external graphic designers, Spring Boot backend architecture with Elasticsearch-powered search, and React + Vite frontends.
  • Managed and coordinated international development teams sourced via Upwork, conducting all technical discussions and contract negotiations in English — defining API contracts, architecture standards, and delivery milestones for each engagement.
  • Architected the cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud (App Engine, Firebase) with a low-cost, scalable design strategy — targeting near-zero operational costs while maintaining production-grade reliability across all services.
